Abstract
Ibn Taymiyyah is one of the most important intellectual figures of recent centuries, leaving a wide-ranging impact on the Islamic world, particularly among the Wahhabis. He has opposed prevalent beliefs and established schools of thought of his time, offering interpretations and perspectives that many Muslims, especially among Sunni circles, consider to be doctrinally deviant. This paper critically examines Ibn Taymiyyah’s method of Quranic exegesis, with particular focus on its influence on the development of Wahhabi thought and the challenges it poses in understanding the Quran accurately.
Research Objective:
The objective of this research is to analyze and critically evaluate Ibn Taymiyyah’s approach to Quranic exegesis from both scientific and religious perspectives. This study also aims to assess the impact of his method on the intellectual currents of Wahhabism and to compare it with the accepted exegeses of Sunni and Shia scholars.
Research Method:
This research follows a descriptive-analytical methodology, drawing upon Ibn Taymiyyah's exegetical works, his related jurisprudential and theological writings, and academic studies on the history of Quranic exegesis. A comparative analysis and critical examination of Ibn Taymiyyah's viewpoints in various religious areas—especially in matters of Tawhid (oneness of God), shirk (polytheism), and Imamate—forms the core of this study.
