Among the verses that indicate the guardianship of Imam Ali (AS) is the third verse of Surah Al-Ma’idah, known as the “Verse of Completion.” Given the significance of his status, this verse has lately been subject to critique and ambiguity from various movements opposed to Shia Islam. The aim of this study is to examine the dimensions of the doubts raised regarding the Verse of Completion, which has been reviewed from the perspective of Ibn Taymiyyah. This research is developmental in terms of its objective and descriptive-case in its methodological approach, positioning itself within the framework of qualitative studies. After a comprehensive examination of the objections to the Verse of Completion and a recognition of the political life and thoughts of influential figures in the spread of opposing currents, particularly Ibn Taymiyyah, the results show that the doubts about the Verse of Completion can be presented in two dimensions: the traditional animosity and hostility towards the Shia sect, stemming from adherence to deviant currents created in the early Islamic era (considering the guardianship as the completion of Islam and God’s blessing), and the fear of the growing popularity and recognition of the Ahl al-Bayt’s (AS) status in forming a justice-seeking and anti-oppression society (considering the completion of Islam with Shia Islam).
